For anyone who has admired the beauty and intrigue of the desert nomadic culture, whether in photographs in National Geographic or films such as Lawrence of Arabia, there is nothing to compare with traversing the remote Sahara desert of Erg Chebbi sand dunes and Hamadas astride a camel. Our camel trekking allows you to become far more than a casual tourist. Whether for an hour or a longer trek of up to 11 days, trekking enables you to experience a way of life that has endured for a thousand years.
The vastness of the Sahara desert
The vastness of the Sahara desert has a variety of landscapes. The orange Erg Chebbi sand dunes in Merzouga , the tallest and most beautiful in Morocco, provide vistas unseen by travelers in vehicles. There is no way to adequately describe the silence of the remote desert or the brightness and seemingly nearness of the stars, where no glow of distant city lights interferes. You will also taste traditional nomadic foods prepared on open fires and sleep in traditional tents or, if you choose, beneath the stars.
Short Camel Ride
You may choose to take a short camel ride to spend one night in the heart of the dunes. Or you may choose to explore more deeply on treks that trace parts of Mohamed’s ancestral routes, when the nomads traded as far away as Timbuktu. The length of the trek can be customized to suit your desires. Either way, a camel trek offers a portal into a different world that you will never forget.
Trek For a Longer Time
If you choose to trek for a longer time, you will discover the rich desert oasis and watch the rare birds such as the desert sparrow and the Houbara bustard in the vast Sahara desert. Trek within the magnificent moon-like landscape of Kem-Kem Hamada (flat stony desert) and find your own fossil or meteorite. At night you might have a chance to see stars or meteorites falling as if you were watching a movie. It is Mohamed’s wish to welcome you and show you as much as possible about Morocco and it’s culture.
