Day 1 Fez – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

We will meet your at your riad in Fez to begin our journey to Marrakech traveling the Middle and High Atlas Mountains with our first stop in Azrou, a Berber village in the cedar forest. You will most likely see and feed Barbary apes here. We continue on through the Tizi n’ Talghamt Pass to Midelt and along the magnificent Ziz Gorge which is carved through volcanic rock. We will pass through the villages of Erfoud and Risanni before arriving at your hotel in Merzouga.

Day 2 Merzouga area – camel trek and overnight in the desert camp

Will be spent in and around Merzouga visiting the lake and seeing the beautiful flamingos if it is the correct time of year. You will visit goat hair nomad tents and learn about the desert life. We will visit the Gnaoua people and have the opportunity to listen to their music and learn about their culture and lifestyle which they brought from Sudan. Later in the afternoon, you will mount your camel for a trek across the Erg Chebbi to experience the desert landscape and listen to the sounds of silence until we reach our nomad camp. Here you will witness a spectacular sunset, have a meal prepared using ancient techniques, and lay on your back to experience a sky filled with millions of stars that you feel you can reach up and touch. You will sleep the night as a nomad in your tent.

Day 3 Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

Early in the morning, your camelman will wake you up to watch what well may be the best sunrise of your life. You will then peacefully camel-trek back to the village of Merzouga. Enroute you couldn’t fail to appreciate the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes that change with the light as the day progresses. After breakfast in the hotel , you’ll leave for Rissani, Tinghir, and Todra gorges which is the highest, narrowest gorge in Morocco. Here you will have the option to hike for an hour within the valley, where you will meet locals and learn about the culture and geography. After lunch in the heart of the gorge, you will continue to the Dades Valley, where you’ll see the majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Day 4 Dades Valley – Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou – Tizi n’Tichka Pass – Marrakech

You will start travelling through the Dades Valley, the way of 1000 kasbahs, towards Ouarzazat and then to Marrakech. This route is a photographer’s dream You will stop at Kalaat Mgouna, “the rose city”, where you will have the opportunity to visit the co-op and purchase rose scented items. We continue to Marrakech via the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO site, home to Glaoui decedents. Your journey will continue through the majestic Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m) over the High Atlas Mountains and end ar your hotel in Marrakech.
